The WSIS+20 review is a United Nations General Assembly-led process, with the Office of the President of the General Assembly and future co-facilitators providing leadership. It will be an inclusive process, with active stakeholder participation, in line with the WSIS tradition of stakeholder engagement. It is expected to conclude during the next General Assembly in 2025.
The WSIS+20 review will emphasize coordination among UN agencies and utilize existing mechanisms like the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS). Key partners, including the CSTD, ITU, UNESCO, and regional commissions, will contribute insights and lessons learned. This collaborative approach aims to align WSIS outcomes with the implementation of the Global Digital Compact and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
UN DESA will serve as the Secretariat for the WSIS+20 review, continuing its role from the WSIS+10 review in 2015. As Secretariat, UN DESA is committed to ensuring that inputs from a diverse range of stakeholders are fully incorporated, adhering to the multi-stakeholder process mandated by General Assembly Resolution 70/125. Likewise, UN DESA will work closely with UN system partners, including through UNGIS.
